"Hop" jumps to the first rank of this weekend's North American box office. Being predicted to open in the $25 million range, the comedy film gains better than expected. The Universal Pictures film, budgeted for about $63 million, has obtained approximately $38.12 million in ticket sales for its first week.
Landing in the second place is Duncan Jones-directed "Source Code". The movie, which features the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan, has done well by gaining an estimated $15 million from 2,961 theaters, after costing around $32 million to produce.
Meanwhile, another new film "Insidious" lands in the third place for this week's box office. Reportedly being produced with less than $1.5 million, the horror film collects an estimated $13.5 million. The FilmDistrict movie also allegedly earns millions in international pre-sales.
Last-week champion "Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules" falls to fourth with approximately $10.2 million. At the same time, Neil Burger-directed "Limitless" also drops to number five. The thriller-action movie only gains about $9.4 million this week, or drops about 37.6% from last week's cume.
