The winners of 20th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards have been revealed on Monday, November 29 during a ceremony held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The audience, with Natalie Portman among them, witnessed "Winter's Bone" 's triumph that night.
Nominated in three categories, the movie took home two prizes. The drama grabbed the coveted gong for Best Feature and got the other honor for Best Ensemble Performance. "Winter's Bone" lead actress Jennifer Lawrence, however, lost Breakthrough Actor to Ronald Bronstein ("Daddy Longlegs").
Breakthrough Director went to Kevin Asch for "Holy Rollers", pushing aside other contenders like John Wells ("The Company Men"), Glenn Ficarra and John Requa ("I Love You Phillip Morris"), Tanya Hamilton for "Night Catches Us" and Lena Dunham ("Tiny Furniture").
Best Documentary title was won by "The Oath" while another documentary, Davis Guggenheim's "Waiting for "Superman" " which became talks for criticizing American public education, grabbed Gothams' first Festival Genius Award. The last gong handed out at the awards show was given to "Littlerock" for Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You.
Hosted by Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci, the 2010 Gotham Awards also included career tributes to actors Robert Duvall and Hilary Swank, director Darren Aronofsky and Focus Features topper James Schamus.
